Forged from youth
friendship and sports camaraderie in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Faron Asham
and Trevor Shwaluk established Triple Crown Baseball in 2003 along with founding
partner Ross Tycoles. By 2009, the addition of partners Ed Shaw and Ryan Borody
solidified the progressively expanding and influential company.
Asham, who now resides in Brandon, Manitoba and is referred to by many as "Mr.
Baseball", continues to serve as President of the Brandon Minor Baseball
Association. Asham has received a number of accolades over the course of his
involvement in sport including Provincial Volunteer of the Year and National
recognition as a result of this award. He was named Manitoba's High Performance
Coach of the Year and remains Manitoba's longest tenured and most successful
Provincial team coach. During this time he also served as Manitoba's Director
of Competition and later added the role of Director of Coaching.
Upon leading a team of Aboriginal Youth to a Bronze medal in the North American
Indigenous Games held in Denver Colorado, Asham was recognized as the Regional
Aboriginal Coach of the Year, Provincial Aboriginal Coach of the Year and
crowned the National Aboriginal Coach of the Year in Miramichi, New Brunswick.
To this day Asham continues to be involved with Aboriginal Youth and First
Nation communities through his involvement with Triple Crown Baseball. He
remains an integral part of Baseball Manitoba Competition and High Performance
committees and also was appointed to the Provincial Coaching Advisory Council
for Sport Manitoba.
Trevor Shwaluk, still residing in Portage la Prairie,
Manitoba, is a former Manitoba Junior Baseball League All-star infielder and
Red-Boine Senior League Batting Champion. After international baseball playing
experience in Australia and Japan, he returned to Manitoba to assist the
Baseball Manitoba Provincial teams in Head and Assistant Coaching roles since
2002. His athletic therapy schooling and work with the Winnipeg Goldeyes
professional baseball team has solidified his name in the province both on a
technical and tactical basis. Shwaluks ability to identify talent early and
allow for prevention of potential injury resulting mechanics of young baseball
players has added further clout to his already outstanding baseball pedigree.
As a "go to" instructor for Baseball Manitoba, Shwaluk's knowledge, personality
and delivery of information, has contributed exponentially to the already
growing company known as Triple Crown.
Ross Tycoles resides in Reston, Manitoba. He is a
former power hitting catcher from Saskatchewan who added his baseball savvy to
the provincial teams in 2001 and continues to serve as coach or assistant coach
representing Manitoba at National Competition. Tycoles, a stalwart coach and
former Director of High Performance for Baseball Manitoba is still active in the
Manitoba Senior Baseball League (MSBL). He has energized the southwest region
of Manitoba by spearheading the Reston Rockets baseball and hockey teams to
successful seasons over the last decade. Adding to his numerous baseball and
hockey accomplishments, the MSBL and Baseball Manitoba have recognized Tycoles
as the Coach of the Year and High Performance Coach of the Year awards since
2003. He continues to receive frequent kudos for his coaching and is a familiar
name on the annual nomination list.
As Baseball Manitoba Clinicians and Provincial Team
coaches, the original three initially aspired to share their baseball knowledge
to Manitoba grass roots and development aged youth. Their philosophy: create an
abundance of elite players within the province through better instruction and
participation in the earlier years of a player's baseball career.
The long term plan incorporated player camps/clinics in
rural communities throughout the province. Instruction by the partners ensures
no misinterpretation in details for skills analysis, technique, strategy, and
fair play. With high coach to player ratios, Triple Crown Baseball camps
popularity and praise has grown considerably.
Rural minor ball associations began to schedule annual camps to begin each ball
season. Triple Crown Baseball quickly became the provincial baseball
information resource for youth development and began fielding questions on
player equipment and coaching techniques. From there, a new opportunity arose
and baseball equipment sales (distribution through Homerun Sports) and coaching
clinics coincided with each Triple Crown Baseball Camp.
The honesty and integrity of the partners, along with
the success of the teams they coached, undoubtedly boosted an unknown company
into a provincially recognized force.
Word of mouth travels fast when people are pleased. At
the request of baseball parents AND parents involved in sports other than
baseball (i.e. hockey, male and female volleyball, softball and football),
Triple Crown Baseball was approached to champion the promotion of Manitoba High
School athletes to U.S. and Canadian University/College athletic programs. This
involved producing video compilations for athletes, assisting the families
through the myriad of NCAA rules and regulations, and by hosting Showcase events
for athletes to perform in front of U.S. College coaches.
Through the production of an athlete's individual video
compilation, Triple Crown Baseball promotes Manitoban athletes in
securing athletic scholarships in U.S. and Canadian Universities/Colleges while
furthering academic pursuits. This product has so far boasted a success rate of
100% in securing athletic scholarships for the athletes who have chosen to
utilize this service.
By 2009, the company was rapidly expanding in both
equipment distribution through its relationship with Homerun Sports and video
promotional opportunities. Triple Crown Baseball identified and welcomed Ed Shaw
of Cardale, Manitoba and Ryan Borody a Métis athlete, of Portage la Prairie,
Manitoba to the fold. As former players and still active members of their
respective sporting communities, they add trustworthiness and specific skills in
the area of sales and technology. Their partnership in Triple Crown Baseball
further solidified an already stable core.
Having been identified as a force in the sporting
landscape, Triple Crown Baseball has attracted the interest of other Sporting
Bodies such as Softball and Football Manitoba, which have already requested the
company's involvement in assisting in the development and promotion of their
athletes.
